Stonecrest shoplifter already on probation arrested after stashing security sensors in Belk bathroom

Diane Gail Silverman

A Stonecrest shoplifter already on probation was arrested after stashing merchandise security sensors in a bathroom at Belk in The Villages.

Diane Gail Silverman entered the store at La Plaza Grande on Sunday and selected merchandise, put it into a bag and took it into the restroom at the store, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The 72-year-old removed the security sensors, left them in the bathroom and attempted to leave the store. She was stopped by the store’s loss prevention officer.

The merchandise she attempted to steal was valued at $447 and included jewelry and clothing.

She was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.

Silverman was arrested last month after attempting to steal items at Bealls. She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.

Silverman had been arrested in 2016 in a suspected purse theft at a store at Lake Sumter Landing. Ultimately, the case was not prosecuted.
