It all started with a trip to the Apple store

Christmas has generally been a good time in the Evans family.  So I supposed a small hick-up here or there is not to be unexpected.  My particular hick-up occurred on the 18th of December when we went to the Geek place to have The Blonde in the house’s iPhone examined.  She had downloaded an update as the iPhone demanded.  However, when all was said and done, her iPhone would only stay on for about a minute and then it would shut down.  Thus, we sought the wisdom of the geek people who studied it long and hard, and even went in a solitary lair – I guess to ask a head geek what needed to be done.

Unfortunately, we were told that the good news was that it could be fixed.  However, the bad news was that we had to go to an Apple store as there was a fix, but they were the only ones who could do the fix.  Apparently, Apple had not yet shared the fix with anyone.  With that in mind we started to trudge off to the car, when I tripped over a chair.  The Blonde said it looked like I was flying through the air.  Since I am not Superman or even Thor, I landed with a crash on my right knee, jaw, forehead and arm while twisting my back.  After being helped up by various staff and customers, I took inventory.  My knee was the least of my worries because it was just scraped.

We drove home, and I put some ice on my back, only to look down and see that my knee had swollen to two to three times its normal size.  We went the doctor and X-ray route, and nothing was found to be broken.  This, of course, is good. However, nine days later I can’t sit, stand, walk or lie down with any comfort.  I can’t drive either. Now as I noted, this is not supposed to occur in the Evans household during this season.  What makes it even worse is that we are scheduled to take one of those delightful cruises that The Blonde in the house loves.  This one is on a big boat which has tremendous “activities” in which I can become involved.  Thus, I was duly told by many that the long seven days of the cruise would pass by so quickly that I would immediately want to take another cruise – also to the Caribbean where all ships seem to go this time of the year.

Alas, even that great pleasure is now in jeopardy as I am not certain that I will be able to walk correctly on the sailing date.  It is a “Big” ship and walking well is necessary, particularly to enjoy all the “activities”.  Now we come to the ironic part.  We had been scheduled to go to our youngest son’s house for Christmas, but it was determined that they would come to ours.  They did, and among other matters I showed the Blonde’s phone to our son and stated the problem.  He said let me look at it.  Before I knew it, he was back and said “it’s fixed” – and it was! Thus, I hadn’t even needed to go to the geek store.  (Makes you wonder why they didn’t do what he did.)

The rest of the day was good even with my aching knee.  The two grand-kids who came with our youngest son and his good wife enjoyed the presents.  We also talked to our older son and daughter-in-law who were vacationing in Colorado with their four kids.  (They had their own problems in that they had both picked up the flu bug). Nevertheless, we enjoyed the Christmas dinner and all was well.  The grandson who was present read my last two articles about Ludlow the yellow rubber ducky.  He even went back and read some that I had written about Ludlow in previous years.  After, they left I went into the computer room and noted that the computer screen was filled with yellow rubber duckies.  Our grandson is a true Evans with an appropriate sense of humor for this family.

I want to wish everyone a most “Happy New Year.” I would hope that everyone will wish me the same in return.  I will need all that I can get as I don’t want to fall on my left knee or something!
