The spirit of Italy filled Spanish Springs Town Square on Tuesday afternoon as Villagers put on the annual Italian-American Parade.
Dave and Geriann Cabral of the Village of St. James began their reign as Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabella, waving to the crowd from the back of a golf cart.

Jo and Ellen Teodosia of the Village of Country Club Hills continued their reign as Best Decorated Golf Course. They won with a golf cart decorated as a boat that almost appeared to be capable of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. The couple won top honors last year, too.
Members of the audience were thrilled to see the Villages High School marching band make their way through the square. There were plenty of longtime favorites in the lineup, like the Villages Twirlers & Drum Corps, Villages Cheerleaders, Clown Alley #179, Primetime Twirlers, Sweet Potato Queens and Original Bellydancers who were all warmly received.
And as always, decorated golf carts were a big hit.
The parade was staged by the Residents Parade Committee in partnership with the Villages Recreation Department. Mark your calendar, because in two weeks, the Oktoberfest Parade will step off at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Spanish Springs Town Square.
