Southbound semi overturns, catches fire on Interstate 75 in Marion County

A trucker was ticketed after his southbound semi overturned and caught fire early Sunday morning on Interstate 75 in Marion County.

Michel Garcia, 44, of Miami, had been driving the semi hauling food products at 5:35 a.m. at Mile Marker 363 when the truck drifted into the center median, struck the guardrail and overturned, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The truck caught fire and was a total loss.

Garcia escaped with minor injuries and was taken to Shands UF Hospital in Gainesville. 

He was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
