A snowbird in a golf cart was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of driving under the influence.
Judith Francoeur, 69, of Kankakee, Ill. had been at the wheel of a white golf cart shortly after 7 p.m. on Bichara Boulevard when a police officer noticed that the golf cart didn’t have any lights.
The officer initiated a traffic stop at Paige Place and Avenida Central.
Francoeur would not make eye contact with the officer and was tight-lipped, according to the arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She had a difficult time finding her wallet and had poor dexterity.
The officer suspected Francoeur had been drinking and asked her to participate in field sobriety exercises. She struggled through the exercises and at one point complained of “vertigo.”
She got into a verbal debate with the officer over whether she would provide a breath sample. Ultimately, she decided not to provide the sample.
She was arrested on a charge of DUI and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
