Sinkholes in The Villages attract attention of Smithsonian Magazine

Residents of the Village of Calumet Grove have become accustomed to a lot of media attention since sinkholes began opening up in February on McLawren Terrace.

Even as recently as this past week, helicopters from Orlando television stations were hovering above two homes already declared uninhabitable after new sinkholes opened up.

Smithsonian Magazine this week took a look at the situation and declares “The Villages is a hotbed of sinkholes.”

The scholarly online magazine points out that sinkholes occur more frequently in Florida than in any other state.

The report also states the obvious, “And The Villages has been in development overdrive.”
