Employees of the Stable Soils company are completing sinkhole and ground stabilization work on a residence in 3300 block of Boardroom Trail in the Village of LaBelle.
The sinkhole opened in the driveway and under the garage shortly after Hurricane Irma this past September.
In the days following Irma, several loads of fill were poured into the hole and were not sufficient to cure the problem. Technicians determined that the soil under the home had a number of voids. Neighbors counted 38 cement trucks which filled the seams and voids under the residence.
As the voids filled, the technicians were able to monitor the progress using lasers which had been attached to the house.
The cost of the remediation was said to be close to $150,000 and covered by insurance. Neighbors said they were told that a street drain located next to the home and which drained into a pond on the golf course was not the cause of the sinkhole.
