Sign marks nearing of Wawa opening

Anticipation has been growing for the arrival of Wawa, known for its food and fuel.

Last year, the Wildwood Commission approved the annexation of about 5.4 acres for a new Wawa.

The Lady Lake Commission last week approved landscape waivers for a Wawa planned for the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466.

Wawa, which has more than 700 stores in the mid-Atlantic region, opened its first Florida store in July 2012 and now has stores in the Orlando and Tampa areas. The company plans to add 120 Florida stores by 2022.

Wawa developers have previously hinted at a third store in the proximity of The Villages.
