Sheriff’s deputies investigate after man accidentally shoots himself in Ocklawaha

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate after a man accidentally shot himself Monday night in Ocklawaha.

The 61-year-old had suffered entry and exit wounds on his left thigh after accidentally shooting himself with a .45-caliber firearm at his home on SE 92nd LN, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office. The gun had been tucked in the man’s waistband and when he stood up a bracelet on his wrist caught on the gun’s hammer and it went off.

Marion County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and treated the wound. The man refused hospitalization.

The incident was documented with the Department of Children and Families as a 16-year-old was in the home at the time of the incident.
