Rowdy customer arrested after 911 calls received from Guy Fieri’s restaurant in The Villages

Steven Roland Read

A rowdy customer left in handcuffs after a pair of 911 calls were received from Guy Fieri’s restaurant at Lake Sumter Landing.

Steven Roland Read, 53, of Oxford, entered Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen & Bar at about 10 p.m. Thursday with a friend. Read had been served a shot of vodka, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He began arguing with his companion and then began yelling at customers and restaurant staff.

Two customers at the restaurant placed 911 calls to the sheriff’s office.

A bartender told Read to leave, but Read began screaming at the bartender and told him he wasn’t going anywhere.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Read continued his irate outburst and began yelling at them.

He resisted efforts to be placed in handcuffs and had to be taken to the ground by the deputies.

EMS arrived on the scene and while they evaluated Read, he screamed at them. After he was medically cleared, Read used derogatory, demeaning language toward a female deputy.

On the way to the Sumter County Detention Center in Bushnell, Read began crying and complained that his handcuffs were too tight. The deputy stopped his patrol car at a gas station in Coleman and loosened the handcuffs.

Read was held on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest.

He was released Friday morning after posting $1,500 bond.
