Roadway to be dedicated in honor of military hall of famer in Marion County

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners and Veterans Services will join Kingsland Ocala Waterway Owners Association, members of the Layne family and area residents for a dedication ceremony honoring military hall of famer and KOWOA president since 2004, Walter C. Layne. A portion of Southwest 103rd Street Road will be dedicated in Layne’s honor at 10 a.m. on July 27.

Layne’s actions during his 30 years of military service resulted in his induction into a military hall of fame. He also served 30 years in civil service. As a dedicated member of KOWOA, Layne volunteered 40 to 60 hours each week.

This dedication serves as an expression of the community’s gratitude for Layne’s successful efforts to pave three sections of area roadways. Layne’s efforts also brought the community’s water retention areas and storm water runoff system up to the standards required to apply for county maintenance.

Layne’s diligence in classifying the area as a Marion County municipal service benefits unit ensures maintenance for privately owned roads within the area. He has also secured funding for future road overlays.

For more information contact Marion County Administration at 352-438-2300.
