A resident turned to the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors on Friday morning for help with a parking problem.
Lorraine Robinson, who lives on Golden Grove Drive, originally contacted CDD 6 Chair Sally Moss about the problem.
The Oleander Villas, located off Canal Street in the Village of Sabal Chase, are somewhat unusual in that they don’t have overflow or temporary parking. However, a “stub street” is located behind Robinson’s ranch home.
“Snowbirds use it as their own personal parking space. That’s 24/7,” Robinson told the board.
She clarified that the snowbirds in question are “renters.”
She said that when they don’t leave their automobile in the spot, they park a golf car there so no one else can claim the spot.
The result is that Robinson is constantly looking from her lanai at parked cars.
The board discussed a variety of options, but acknowledged the limits of enforceable parking rules in villas.
In 2016, CDD supervisors from across The Villages came together to discuss a possible towing solution. CDDs have been reluctant to adopt the towing policy due to a fear of unintended consequences.
District Manager Janet Tutt said she would get in touch with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office about the matter.
However, District Counsel Valerie Fuchs cautioned the resident that law enforcement won’t get involved simply because of “aesthetics.”
