The Project Wide Advisory Committee on Monday tabled a plan for the Villages Golf Cars to update a golf car display at Rohan Recreation Center.
PWAC members raised concerns about the perception that the display is advertising for a private business.
“I don’t think it’s the job of government (to do advertising.) I’ve got a problem with that,” said Community Development District 7 Supervisor Jerry Vicenti, a member of PWAC.
District Manager Richard Baier said the District inherited the display when the amenities were purchased from the Developer.
“We took over the rec center with that there. It was part of the transfer,” Baier said.
He described the display as a “public education piece.”
“It provides information about getting around The Villages on the multi-modal paths,” Baier said.
However, other PWAC members said they were uncomfortable with the message being sent by the display.
“Putting the new one in there creates the perception that it is advertising for The Villages Golf Cars,” PWAC member Don Wiley said.
