A Village of Polo Ridge woman already charged in a 2017 death is facing an additional criminal charge after an alleged attack on a fellow inmate at the Marion County Jail.
Justyn Kimberly Hudgins, 37, was arrested March 2 at her home on Walker Loop. She is believed to have been at the wheel of a car at 2 a.m. Jan. 17, 2017, that struck and killed 43-year-old Alexis Monroe of Summerfield on U.S. 301 near Brown’s Country Market. In the hours after Monroe’s death, the Florida Highway Patrol launched a search for a silver 2002 Honda four-door sedan believed to be the vehicle that struck and killed Monroe. The vehicle was seized the following day in The Villages.
This past week in Marion County Court, Hudgins pleaded not guilty to a new charge of battery.
She reportedly attacked a 20-year-old fellow female inmate on April 22. Hudgins threw a trash can from the second floor down at an inmate lying on her bunk. Hudgins then ran down the stairs, struck the younger woman in the face and pulled her hair, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The attack left the younger woman with a lacerated lip.
