A Lady Lake police officer has been honored for his quick action that saved a man’s life at a Walgreens in The Villages.
Officer Ron Michaud responded July 9 to the Walgreens at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Rolling Acres Road where a man had collapsed and was not breathing.
“Upon arrival, Officer Michaud took over CPR from the pharmacist after attaching the leads of his issued AED. Once the AED evaluated the patient, Officer Michaud administered a shock which effectively enabled the man to start breathing on his own,” said Chief of Police Chris McKinstry in a presentation Monday evening before the Lady Lake Commission.
EMS arrived on the scene and transported the man to The Villages Regional Hospital where he successfully underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering at home.
“Officer Michaud’s quick response and determined action saved this man’s life. His exceptional efforts are worthy of recognition and therefore he is awarded the Lady Lake Police Department Life Saving Award,” McKinstry said.
Michaud said it had been a team effort, and emphasized the pharmacist’s role in saving the man’s life.
Michaud is well known in The Villages, as he is regularly on duty at Spanish Springs Town Square. The former Maine state trooper also had been honored last year with a Life Saving Award for his role in saving an elderly woman’s life at Arby’s.
