Police not sure who shot Ocala man during domestic disturbance

The Ocala man who was shot Tuesday night after a confrontation with two sisters apparently was wounded by someone who witnessed the disturbance.

The man, 37-year-old Cornelius Bell, got into a domestic dispute with 43-year-old twin sisters Susan and Carol Grigler in the 500 block of Southwest 12th Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday night, said Capt. Steven Cuppy of the Ocala Police Department.

Bell struck both of the sisters with his car as he drove away from the scene. He collided with another vehicle a short time later and then stopped his car outside a residence in the 1900 block of SW 7th Place, where he collapsed while seeking help.

Cuppy said several Ocala officers treated Bell until EMS crews arrived. Bell was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where is believed to be in critical condition. Because of his condition, Cuppy said officers haven’t been able to speak with him.

Officials from Ocala Regional Medical Center didn’t return a call Wednesday afternoon seeking information about Bell’s condition.

Cuppy said the two sisters’ injuries were not life-threatening.

Cuppy said the investigation is continuing and his department isn’t ready to release details about how many times Bell was shot.
