Pistol-toting Ocala man jailed after deputies receive report of death threat

Michael John Santos

Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Ocala man Tuesday on an outstanding warrant regarding assault with a deadly weapon.

Michael John Santos, 29, was taken into custody in connection with an incident that happened Aug. 5 in the 1800 block of NE 91st Place in Anthony. A man told deputies that Santos, who was sitting in front of his house in a white Cadillac CTS, was inquiring about the whereabouts of his children. The man said he told Santos not to worry about them because they were with their mother, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the man said he didn’t want to reveal where the children were because Santos “is violent in nature” and he feared for their safety.

At that point, the man said, Santos pulled out a tan semi-automatic pistol and pointed it at his head while saying, “I’m going to kill you.” The man, who said he feared for his life, said Santos then sped away on NE 91st Place while yelling “bang, bang,” the report states.

After interviewing an eyewitness who confirmed the man’s story, deputies attempted to make contact with Santos but were unable to locate him. A warrant was issue for his arrest Aug. 7 and he was taken into custody Tuesday and transported to the Marion County Jail.
Santos, who lives at 2240 NE 24th St. in Ocala, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and released Tuesday afternoon on $10,000 bond.
