Pest control company service vehicle hits Villager on bicycle in roundabout

A Villager riding a bicycle was struck in a roundabout by a pest control company service vehicle.

John William Beebe, 64, of the Village of Charlotte, had been riding a Giant TCR carbon fiber bicycle at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a pickup owned by Massey Services Inc. and driven by 38-year-old James Emory Robinson of Summerfield, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Beebe’s bicycle was westbound on State Road 44A and in the inside lane of the roundabout at Buena Vista Boulevard when he was struck by the Massey Services truck. The front bumper of the truck struck the rear wheel of the bicycle, causing Beebe to be thrown from the bicycle.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigator included this diagram in his report.

Beebe was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center. He had been wearing a helmet, the accident report noted.

Robinson was “inattentive” when approaching the roundabout, the FHP investigator wrote in his report.

Robinson was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
