Why are we paying to have someone there if it is not for security?

To the Editor:

Why is it necessary to have to flash a card to open the gate to enter a community? Why is it not set to open automatically like in some area’s? We are told the gates are not there for security reasons, but to slow down the traffic, so making us produce a card is just to aggravate us? Some entrances have gate guards while others off main roads don’t. Why are we paying to have someone there if it is not for security? Just asking.
