Paul C. Carroll

Paul C. Carroll of Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on April 13th, 2018. He was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on May 25th, 1924, the son of Leslie and Leona Carroll.

The Carroll family moved to Houston, Ohio where they engaged in farming. Later they moved to Piqua, Ohio. On March 3rd 1944, Paul married his sweetheart, Colleen. Paul served in the Army of the United States; 25th Signal Company, during the Asiatic Pacific Theater, first in the Philippine Liberation and later, participating in the Army of Occupation Forces in Japan, 1945-1946.

As a young man, after returning from the Pacific Theater of WWII, Paul became a miller, operating both the Sugar Grove Mill in Covington, Ohio, and the Clifton Mill. The latter mill he had purchased and restored to operational status. In the mid 60’s, he and his family moved back to Piqua where he has employed as a mill wright and Champion Papers Inc. Ten years later, he was transferred to the Courtland, Alabama plant and continued as a maintenance mechanic/machinist for the paper mill.

In the 1990, he retired from Champion Papers. He and his wife bought a home in Del Mar Village of The Villages, Florida.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Colleen (Jessup); five children, Bonnie Dooley (Dan), of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Kathy Schrimpf (Rob), of Springfield, Ohio, June Whitehead (Gary), of Parker, Colorado, Paul Daniel Carroll (Kay), of Decatur, Alabama, John Carroll, of Lady Lake, FL; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Mae Schnur, of Elksville, Illinois.

Paul lived a full, long and very productive life. In later years, he often commented: “I feel like a young man in an old man’s body.” Now he sleeps until God gathers his children. We, who remain, look forward to seeing him young again on that great day! Paul is and will always be greatly missed.
