A New England Patriots fan was arrested at home in The Villages on Sunday after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash in a roundabout.
Another motorist had spotted a blue Ford Expedition with a flat tire traveling at about 4:30 p.m. on Buena Vista Boulevard. The vehicle sped up to nearly 65 miles per hour and after going through the roundabout at Buena Vista Boulevard and Old Mill Run, crashed into a decorative flower bed, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The other motorist, who called 911, followed the vehicle to 615 Mullins Path in the Village of Mallory Square.
At the residence, a deputy located 36-year-old Whitney Elyse Marquette who appeared to have been drinking. She admitted to the deputy she had consumed two mixed drinks while she was at work.
She failed field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.
She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and hit and run. Marquette was wearing a New England Patriots jersey when she was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $1,500 bond.
The Patriots on Sunday won the AFC Championship, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20.
Damage to the flower bed, property of the Village Center Community Development District, was estimated at $500, the report noted.
