Parking spaces rather than fence may solve problem at adhoc dog park in Villages

The Amenity Authority Committee has agreed to put in parking places for golf carts at an adhoc dog park in The Villages.

AAC members have been concerned about damage that golf carts of dog owners were doing to the grass at the location near the intersection of El Camino Real and Morse Boulevard, behind The Villages Regional Hospital.

The solution that had been considered was a $17,000 fence aimed at keeping the golf carts, rather than Villagers and their dogs, off the grass.

A dog walker drove a golf cart onto a piece of District property behind The Villages Regional Hospital to take her dog for a walk.

However, at Wednesday’s AAC meeting, committee members opted to go with parking places for golf carts.

Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management indicated 10 flex pave parking spaces would cost about $2,800. Some AAC members feared 10 would be too few, and asked Wartinbee to add a few more spots.

“The property belongs to the people. We can’t stop people from walking their dogs out there,” said AAC Chairman Carl Bell.

Let them keep the fence!
