Pair arrested after Lady Lake police respond to report of neighborhood brawl

Maurice McCook
Scott Gary Burkes

Two men were arrested after law enforcement responded Wednesday morning to a report of a neighborhood brawl in Lady Lake.

Maurice Akeem McCook, 29, and Scott Gary Burkes, 38, had reportedly been armed with sticks and had been striking each other in the 200 block of Morningside Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The men, who are neighbors, had been separated when police arrived, but were still shouting obscenities at each other.

Multiple witnesses from the neighborhood said there had been an “ongoing issue,” the report said.

McCook and Burkes were not cooperative with police, the report indicated.

Both men were taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail.
