Oxford mother arrested after drinking vodka from Wal-Mart in front of her child

Tiffany Law

An Oxford mother was arrested after allegedly drinking vodka from Wal-Mart in front of her child.

Tiffany Ann Law, 37, is facing a charge of child neglect after she was found wandering in the rain with her child Thursday afternoon, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Law had lunch that day with friends who described her behavior as “erratic.” She later called friends and complained she could not find her vehicle in the parking lot at the Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages. Friends said she sounded confused and out of sorts during the phone call.

Her van was found stuck in the mud and “appeared to have been driven in a reckless manner,” the arrest report said. She and the child were wearing wet clothing, having been caught in the rain.

In the van, two empty vodka bottles were found in a Wal-Mart bag that also contained a receipt with the same day’s date.

“The vodka bottles were located just in front of the child’s rear car seat on the floor board,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Law was arrested on a charge of child neglect and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
