A 40-year-old Oxford man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of suicidal threats at about 8 p.m. Saturday at a home on County Road 233. A woman told deputies that Thomas Daniel Milton had been making threats to harm himself. She also said he had pushed her up against a wall earlier in the day and grabbed her by the throat, according to an arrest report.

Milton admitted to grabbing the victim by her arms and throat. He said he had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages throughout the day.

He was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $1,500.
