Opera Club’s ‘Enchanted Evening’ features array of talented young performers

“An Enchanted Evening” in Savannah Center will feature a musical journey from “South Pacific” to “Oklahoma,” with some entertaining stops in between.

It’s all part of the Harold Schwartz Scholarship Program on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The program is presented by the Opera Club of The Villages.

The Opera Club of The Villages is hosting a show titled ‘2018 Enchanted Evening Concert’ on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Savannah Center at 7 p.m. Net proceeds from the event go to the Harold Schwartz Music Student Scholarships program. Four up-and-coming musical talents will be featured. They include, top row, from left: Jocelyn Hansen and Moriah Trenk. Bottom row, from left: Malcolm Payne Jr. and Collin Holloway.

It features music from such Broadway classics as “South Pacific,” “Showboat,” “The Sound of Music” and “Oklahoma.” Also, instrumentals in classical guitar, and piano concertos will be performed.

The Opera Club has sponsored and nurtured some of the best young performers across the country and this show is no exception. The list of those performing includes:

  • Jocelyn Hansen – a soprano who has appeared with the Dallas Opera and is currently studying at The University of North Texas.
  • Moriah Trenk – a student at New York University who recently won first prize in the Korea News Piano and NYU Philharmonic piano competitions.
  • Malcom Payne Jr. – a baritone/flutist who has performed with the Cincinnati Opera and toured with the Dallas Opera; and
  • Collin Holloway – a classical guitarist from the Eastman School of Music. He has performed throughout the United States and in Spain.
