An Ocklawaha couple was arrested after they allegedly tried to steal shoes from Kohl’s in Tavares.
John Robert McDowell, 37, and Jessica Miranda Howard, 23, are accused of putting new shoes on their feet Thursday and walking out of the store.
Both tried to flee, according to the arrest report.
Howard tried to run and the officer had to threaten her with a Taser before she stopped.
McDowell tried to flee in a car and the police officer drew his service revolver for fear that McDowell might injure him and the Kohl’s loss prevention officer who was assisting in the pursuit.
In addition to the shoes on her feet, Howard was carrying a bag with a pair of men’s basketball shoes and a pair of women’s sandals, both taken from the store.
It was Howard’s second arrest on a charge of retail theft. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and later released after posting $1,000 bond.
McDowell was also arrested on a charge of retail theft and booked at the Lake County Jail.
