John Travolta was known as an insomniac to his Ocala neighbors years ago. He would wander around Marion County at night, stopping at local diners to have a snack. You could sit down next to him at the counter and talk about movies or any other topic you might have in mind.
Flying would be something that he would bend your ear on. He is a certified multi-engine pilot and owned a Boeing 707, which he flew out of the Jumbolair air strip in Ocala, where he also is a resident.
He is an excellent dancer, as demonstrated in his break-out movie “Saturday Night Fever.”
In “Gotti,” his portrayal of the quintessential New York City crime boss is authentic. He never drops out of the character who believes that he has been anointed to control everything outside the law. Secondary characters melt into the background.
The plot is dull and the character is one dimensional. “Gotti” is one of the few movies that has received a zero rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Other than Travolta’s star portrayal, there is little to recommend this movie now showing at the Rialto Theater in The Villages.
