Ocala motorcyclist charged with DUI after deputy spots him driving erratically

Arthur Charles Reese

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy arrested an Ocala motorcyclist Monday afternoon after he saw him driving erratically on Highway 200.

Arthur Charles Reese, 62, was traveling at approximately 30 mph in a 50 mph zone, according to an arrest report. He would accelerate to about 45 mph and then slow back down. And he rode the white line on the right side of the roadway before traveling to the middle of the road and back to the white line again.

Reese was stopped at the intersection of Southwest 69th Court Road and Southwest Highway 200. He told the deputy he was traveling at the speed of 30 mph “because I was in second gear.” When asked why he didn’t shift to a higher gear, Reese said, “Because I get Martin’s Yamaha to do my service.”

The deputy said he smelled alcohol while talking to Reese, who also had bloodshot eyes. Reese initially refused to partake in field sobriety tests, but while the deputy was waiting for a tow truck to arrive, he said he would attempt to do the tests.

But Reese refused to follow the deputy’s instructions and he was placed under arrest and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he urinated on himself while sitting in a chair in the DUI room, the report said.

Reese attempted to give samples of his breath but wouldn’t blow into the machine as instructed, the report says. He was held on $500 bond.
