Ocala man killed when car crashes into tree on County Road 42

John Saltis III

An Ocala man was killed early Monday morning in a single-car crash on County Road 42 in Marion County.

John Saltis III, 39, was traveling east on CR 42 in a 2008 Honda Civic at about 2:30 a.m. when he veered onto the north grass shoulder of the roadway and collided with a metal gate, wooden fence and a tree. His car overturned twice in the front yard of a home at 12737 CR 42 and then struck a fence line on the property before coming to rest on its roof, a Florida Highway Patrol report states, adding that Saltis was ejected from the vehicle prior to it coming to rest.

The crash is still under investigation and it hasn’t been determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash, the report says.
