The obsession with Donald Trump

To the Editor:

It seems we can’t have a civil conversation these days without having the conversation quickly turn to an unproductive rant about Donald Trump. Donald Trump appears to some, to be their raison d‵etre.
For instance, you say, “The Villages weatherman calls for cold days all week.”  Response: “That @#$%^&* Trump is a climate change denier.” You shift conversation. “I don’t like playing golf in cold weather”.  Response: “That @$%^& Trump spending millions of tax dollars to travel down to his Florida resort to play golf, the bum.” You make a final try. “It’s impressive as to the large number of couples living here that have reached or surpassed their golden wedding anniversary.” Response: “That #$%^&* Trump uses women like other people use cotton buds the molester in chief piece of #$%^&* “.
At about that time you want to say, please don’t hold back because self- restraint is bad for the body, mind and soul.  But you sense it is a waste of your time and theirs.  Besides which, you would only get hit with “You know that missile thing in Hawaii was Trump’s doing.”
The obsession with Donald Trump is puzzling because most of what is alleged doesn’t hold up and in the long run, the man alone, has little direct effect on our lives.  If people would stop and think, our local or state representative, our spouse, our supervisor, our neighbors, the cashier at the store have a more immediate and direct, good or bad, effect on our lives.
Donald Trump may be president but our founding fathers, understood the abuses of power and crafted our laws to include separation of powers and to otherwise anticipate the failings and ambitions of those who would lead this nation.  The founders made it clear that the Obama’s and Trump’ s serve only with the consent of the governed.  It would behoove Trump haters to focus more on ensuring those check and balances remain in place, on proposed legislation and less on persona mania by engaging in the political process to ensure the preservation of our inalienable rights.
