Lt. Thomas Calhoun is the new commander at the Marion County sheriff’s substation serving The Villages. The substation is located at Mulberry Grove in The Villages.
Calhoun, who has been with the sheriff’s office for 26 years, succeeds Louis Pulford who was recently promoted to a MCSO captain.
The 35-square-mile district serves about 10,000 residents of The Villages. The district also includes Spruce Creek and Orange Blossom Hills as well as other outlying areas. In all, about 22,000 Marion County residents make up the district.
Eight patrol deputies serve the district.
Calhoun said the district benefits from its volunteer ranks, including Citizens On Patrol in The Villages, the Spruce Creek Action Team and Crime Watch in Orange Blossom Hills.
