More trouble for man arrested in theft of ambulance from Villages hospital

Danny Lee Konieczny

A man arrested last week in the theft of an ambulance from The Villages Regional Hospital remains behind bars.

Danny Lee Konieczny, 60, of Lady Lake, is facing a felony charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle following his arrest late Tuesday night by Lake County sheriff’s deputies.

He is accused of stealing a Rural/Metro ambulance from the hospital. He told police he was frustrated by the long wait for the Emergency Room.

Konieczny has been lodged at the Lake County Jail since his arrest last week.

In addition to the grand theft charge, he is being held without bond on a probation violation.

Konieczny had been sentenced May 9 to 12 months probation after pleading no contest to a charge of driving under the influence. He also lost his driver’s license for six months.

Konieczny had been arrested Jan. 23, 2017 by Lady Lake police after his vehicle was spotted swerving into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Lemon Street and Lake Griffin Road.

Konieczny, who at the time listed his address as Aurora, Ill., admitted he had been drinking. He refused to take part in field sobriety exercises.
