Mobile homes being hauled away as Villages buying up properties

Mobile homes being hauled away as Villages buying up properties
A truck prepares to haul away half of a mobile home which had been located at 1013 Parker Place.

A crew this week dismantled and hauled away the mobile home at 1013 Parker Place on the Historic Side of The Villages.

The structure was split in two pieces, with the furniture still inside. Sheets were still on the bed.

Crews on site said the mobile home would be resold and set up elsewhere.

But the future of 1013 Parker Place is probably more interesting.

The property at 1013 Parker Place was purchased May 23 by The Villages of Lake Sumter Inc. which also filed for the demolition permit. The property sold for $99,900.

All across the Historic Side, mobile homes are being uprooted.

One crew said they are currently working 30 mobile home sites on the Historic Side.

It is believed that The Villages’ intention is to buy up the properties, particularly those with older mobile homes, construct site-built homes and resell them at a much higher price.

As “build out” approaches with crews steamrolling 2,000 homes in what is expected to be The Villages’ final addition in Fruitland Park, the Historic Side may prove that what once was old is new again.

In the early 1970s, Harold Schwartz envisioned what would eventually become The Villages when he and business partner Al Tarrson began developing the Orange Blossom Gardens mobile home park. Schwartz brought in his son Gary Morse and the rest is history.

Now, mobile homes on Tarrson Boulevard are among those being uprooted and moved out.

Many on the Historic Side hail this as a sign that their property values will go up.
