A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a Summerfield bank Thursday afternoon to speak with a woman who claimed she was the victim of a financial scam involving a man she met on Match.com.
According to a sheriff’s office report, the woman said she had been communicating with the man she’s never met in person since November.
In January, the woman said the man told her he was going to Malaysia, where he had been contracted to do a large construction job. But upon arriving there, he told the woman that he was robbed and had no identification or money, the report states.
The woman told the deputy she sent the man money, but she had a difficult time remembering the amount and the method she used to send the money, the report states.
