Mary Jeanette Carman

Mary Jeanette Carman, age 83, of The Villages, FL, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018. She was born in Ida Grove, IA on April 5, 1935.

After graduating from high school she moved to Washington DC. While there she met Philip Carman and they married in 1954 and settled in Queens, NY.

Shortly thereafter they moved to Oyster Bay, LI where they raised their two children Deborah and Philip. Mary worked for a number of businesses as a secretary and eventually became a Trust Officer at Norstar Bank. She excelled at anything she attempted, especially her artistic endeavors. Her sartorial skills were evident in the clothing she designed and made for herself and daughter. Her oil paintings from the 1970’s and 1980’s adorned her home as well as those of many family members. Shortly after her husband passed away in 1987 she moved to southern Pennsylvania to be close to her parents.

She remained there until 2005 when she moved to The Villages, FL, where she enjoyed participating in numerous activities and spending time with her friends.

She is survived by her son Philip Carman of New Mexico, sister Virginia Fenner of California, brother Ted Derksen of Virginia, sister Romona Shaffer of Pennsylvania, son in law William Sneddon and granddaughter Brittany Utter, both of Texas. She was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah Sneddon.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in New York.
