Marvin P. ‘Pat’ Davis Jr.

Marvin P. (Pat) Davis Jr., longtime resident of The Villages, FL, died Jan. 24, 2018. He was 94. Born on Nov. 13, 1923, in Lydia, S.C.

Pat moved with his family at age 7 to Baltimore, Md. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served as a flight crewman on submarine chasers based in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his return from World War II, he earned his degree in transportation management from the University of Maryland.

Pat married Norma Scott in 1954 and they had two sons. In the early 1960s, he became one of the first employees of Sea-Land Service, a pioneer in the containerized shipping industry. He worked there proudly until his retirement.

Widowed in 1983, Pat two years later married Julia (Judy) Slahetka of Colonia, N.J. In addition to his wife, survivors include sons: Alan (Ludmila) of Charlottesville, VA, and Brian (Judy) of Oklahoma City, OK; stepdaughter Patti Davis (Kirk) of The Villages, FL; four grandchildren: Leslie Davis of Reston, VA; Lindsay Davis of New York City, NY; Ilona Davis of Seattle, WA; and Evan Davis of Baton Rouge, LA.

The family will host a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on March 28, 2018 in the chapel at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL 32159.
