Marion County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Kathy Bryant was installed as the President of the Florida Association of Counties. Bryant was sworn in as a part of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Annual Conference held this week in Orange County.
“I’m honored to lead this association and advocate for home rule on behalf of all of Florida’s counties,” said Commissioner Bryant. “We are truly united to serve, and together we can work for our individual communities at the state level by protecting local governance and supporting our counties’ interests and critical services.”
Commissioner Bryant will serve as President for one year through June 2017 overseeing the Association by directing policy, advocacy, and the administration functions.
“Commissioner Bryant is committed to her constituents and the importance of keeping services local,” said FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley, “Her perseverance in standing up for home rule – the idea that government closest to the people governs best – will ensure that our members are well represented.”
With Commissioner Bryant now assuming the presidency, other members of the Executive Committee advanced in position, with: Charlotte County Commissioner Chris Constance becoming President-Elect, Hendry County Commissioner Karson Turner becoming 1st Vice President and Broward County Vice Mayor Barbara Sharief serving as Immediate Past President.
FAC will hold elections for the office of 2nd Vice President tomorrow, July 1, during the FAC Annual Business Meeting.
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of one county commissioner from each state senate district (40); five executive officers; six county commissioners appointed at-large with no more than three of the six from counties with population of 75,000 or more; and the past presidents of the FAC.
