Man who stole golf cart in The Villages sentenced to time in prison

Alan Dean Simmons Jr.

A golf cart thief who was foiled by an anonymous tip has been sentenced to prison time.

Alan Dean Simmons Jr. was sentenced last month to one year and one day in the Florida Department of Corrections. He was given credit for 40 days already served in jail. He was also ordered to make restitution in the amount of $3,685.

Simmons had been arrested in March at his home in the Leisure Meadows mobile home park on Marion County Road where he was spotted working on a  stripped golf cart in the carport. The golf cart’s vehicle identification number matched that of a golf cart reportedly stolen from the Holiday Inn Express on Avenida Central in The Villages.

While he was free on bond in the case, he was arrested after he was caught selling drugs at a notoriously troubled home in the Village of Palo Alto and at Tierra Del Sol Bar & Grill.
