An Oxford man arrested after a drunken outburst Jan. 25 at Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen & Bar in The Villages has been sentenced in the case.
Steven Roland Read, 53, entered the Lake Sumter Landing restaurant at about 10 p.m. on the day of his arrest. Read had been served a shot of vodka, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He began arguing with his companion and then began yelling at customers and restaurant staff.
Two customers at the restaurant placed 911 calls to the sheriff’s office.
A bartender told Read to leave, but Read began screaming at the bartender and told him he wasn’t going anywhere. When deputies arrived on the scene, Read continued his irate outburst and began yelling at them. He resisted efforts to be placed in handcuffs and had to be taken to the ground by the deputies.
He was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest.
EMS arrived on the scene and while they evaluated Read, he screamed at them. After he was medically cleared, Read used derogatory, demeaning language toward a female deputy. On the way to the Sumter County Detention Center in Bushnell, Read began crying and complained that his handcuffs were too tight.
Last week in Sumter County Court, Read entered a plea of no contest in connection with the case. He has been placed on probation and ordered to perform 25 hours of community service.
