Man arrested in theft of phone after making second trip to Target

A man was arrested in the theft of a phone after making a second trip to Target at Rolling Acres Plaza.

Dwight Scott Southerland, 33, of Summerfield, was arrested Monday afternoon after he was spotted by store personnel.

Southerland had been captured June 2 on the store’s video surveillance, which showed him selecting an LG Stylo cell phone and leaving the store with it concealed under his shirt, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. On the second visit, Southerland was wearing the same baseball cap, T-shirt and jeans he had been wearing on June 2.

The report noted that Southerland has a prior conviction for dealing in stolen property and a misdemeanor conviction for theft.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail.
