A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to the Summerfield Wal-Mart on Sunday after a loss prevention manager saw a man and a woman attempt to steal more than $400 worth of merchandise.
When the deputy arrived at the store, located at 17961 U.S. Hwy. 27/441, the loss prevention manager told him a man and woman were riding around in electronic shopping carts. She said the woman placed a plastic tote in the cart and spent two to three hours putting items in it. She said the man then exited the store and a short time later the woman drove her electronic cart into the garden area.
The woman made eye contact with the man, who was now in a vehicle, and then drove her electronic cart out of the store without paying for her items, the report says. The loss prevention manager said she confronted the woman, who then abandoned the cart, got into the passenger side of the vehicle and left.
The loss prevention manager said the couple left in a pickup truck and she was able to recover all of the merchandise they attempted to take. The items recovered included Bluetooth speakers and clothing and accessories.
