Make America safer and respected again

To the Editor:

More than a year and half ago, Donald Trump pledged to “Make America Great Again” and I am left wondering are we better off because of the policies of Trump and the Republicans?
To be sure I voted for Republicans in the past but Trump scared me in November 2016 and scares me even more now.
Are we safer?
I don’t feel safer now especially after  23 school shootings as of May, 2018. And I was alarmed to see police presence inside a local Villages church this year necessitated by the national and state violence.
Where is our respect for others to and from our politicians and citizens?
To be sure respect goes both ways. Our president has certainly been out of line in many instances, but so have some Democrats like Maxine Waters calling for her supporters to harass members of the Trump administration in public.  BUT now Trump is the laughing stock of the free world for his “handling” of Putin in Helsinki. We have lost an immeasurable amount of respect from Trump’s lies and his clumsy efforts in foreign relations.  Something to remember in November – Are we safer and more respected?
