On February 27th, 2018, Major Harold ‘Bud’ Wiechman, 88, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully with family by his side.
Born in California, he joined the Air Force at age 19. Bud was a pilot and quickly became a Major, flying C-130s, his greatest love.
He fell in love and married Consuelo Hill and shared Air Force life for twenty years. After leaving the service, he showed his talent by designing and building a series of condominium complexes on South Padre Island, TX. However, much of his retired life was spent living in The Villages and playing golf with his buddies at Hacienda Golf Resort.
When Bud traveled, and he did a lot, he would fly out to Midpines, CA, to see family. He would also go on wonderful trips with his devoted friend of fifteen years, Laura Joiner, who he would also spend much of his time with.
Bud made an impression for his quiet and willing call to help friends, neighbors and family, and was a fantastic example of a fine, self-effacing citizen and neighbor.
He loved golf, and loved to cook and bake oatmeal cookies. His favorite daily routine was happy hour, which he also called “beer:30”.
Many friends and family will miss Bud’s dry humor and golf lessons.
Survived by his loving daughter Sherri Waltrip (Tampa), granddaughter Lynn Baker and her husband Monte Baker (Texas), grandson Ron ‘Bud’ Makelke (California), Nephew Greg Brown & his wife Mary Brown, Great-Nephew Kyle Brown, Sister Charlotte Brown (all from California).
We will miss you, so much, on this crazy planet of “turds & hurtles”.
A Veteran Committal Service will take place on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33519 with USAF Honors.
