Leesburg man dies of injuries suffered in crash in Sumter County

A Leesburg man died of injuries suffered early Wednesday morning in a crash in Sumter County.

Richard Dale Neely, 68, had been at the wheel of a 2014 Ford Fiesta at 12:24 a.m. eastbound on East County Road 470 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by 37-year-old Robert Jason Headley, 37, of Ocala, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.   

Headley’s vehicle had been traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, the report indicated. Neely’s vehicle struck a fence.

Neely was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Headley suffered serious injury and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
