A fire that is being blamed on a lawn mower destroyed a significant portion of an Ocala home Friday and left the owner with minor injuries.
Eight Ocala Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 1500 block of NE 46th Road at 11:05 a.m. in response to a call for help regarding a vehicle fire. Flames burning through the roof were visible as units approached the single-level family home, a report says.
Upon arrival, firefighters were advised that bystanders had assisted the homeowner in getting across a nearby road and out of harm’s way.
After confirming no one was in the structure, firefighters quickly attacked the flames, which were spreading from the garage into the attic.
The fire was brought under control at 11:28 a.m. The homeowner was transported to a local hospital.
Officers from the Ocala Police Department and units from Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to help.
