Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives arrested 30-year-old Jason Michael Tarlton for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student who he used to teach, according to a media release. The offense was discovered after inappropriate pictures of Tarlton and the victim were uploaded to a social media application and were brought to the attention of Lake Weir High School’s MCSO school resource officer.

The school resource officer was made aware of several inappropriate images uploaded to an application called “Afterschool” that depicted Tarlton and the victim in a sexual manner. Detectives made contact with the victim, who said she accidentally uploaded the pictures from her phone to the application. She stated she was no longer a student at LWHS, but had Tarlton as a teacher last year and the two became friends. They eventually became sexually involved. The victim said that Tarlton told her that he loved her and if he ever got caught, he told her that she was “worth it,” the release stated. Detectives then responded to Tarlton’s residence and placed him under arrest.

He was released on $10,000 bond after being booked at the Marion County Jail.
