Injuries to young child traced back to home of 94-year-old great-grandmother in The Villages

Jessica Lewis

Serious injuries to a young child appear to have been inflicted by her mother who was staying earlier this week with her grandmother in The Villages.

The 94-year-old Villager had hosted her daughter, granddaughter and twin great-grandchildren at her home on St. Andrew’s Boulevard in the Village of Country Club Hills. The guests left about 11 a.m. Sunday, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The twin children’s mother, 31-year-old Jessica Lewis of Winter Garden, later that same day took one of the children to Nemour’s Children’s Hospital in Orlando. The child had suffered a skull fracture. The Department of Children and Families was contacted and launched an investigation. A doctor also confirmed the child had several fractures in various stages of healing on the legs, right arm and ribs.

Lewis was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

The Villager told police that her great-grandchild “seemed to cry a lot” and “Jessica was annoyed by her crying.”

The great-grandmother dismissed it, telling police that it is “normal for an infant to cry a lot.”

She told police that Lewis had slept on a couch in her family room and the twins slept on portable swings.

It has since been reported that the second twin also had suffered injuries.
