Haydn L. Evans

Haydn L. Evans, 76, of The Villages, FL, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Born in Orange, NJ he was the son of the late Haydn and Jeanne (Laurell) Evans.

Haydn was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

Haydn began his insurance career with Chubb & Son Insurance in New York City and later with Chubb in Los Angeles. As an insurance executive specializing in commercial insurance, he became affiliated with Daniel-James Insurance of Toledo, OH later branching out to central Ohio in Columbus. During his career in Ohio he also owned the Evans & Muir Insurance Co. in Mount Vernon, OH. Even in retirement, Haydn was involved in consulting work. He retired in 2008 closing a 45 year career in the insurance industry.

Always a person to be involved, Haydn ran successfully for the Sumter School Board in 2006 and was continually re-elected. He was passionate about education and was dedicated to improving Sumter schools.

Haydn and his wife, Cynthia came to The Villages from Columbus, OH in 2005. He enjoyed The Villages in social life as well as his friends and neighbors. He was a licensed pilot flying for both work and pleasure in his Cherokee Lance aircraft. He was a member of the Oxford Assembly of God, Oxford, FL.

Haydn leaves his beloved wife, Cynthia Ann (Logan) Evans; his children Daniel Evans, Kristan Erdogan, Tracy Evans, and Haydn Evans II; grandchildren; Justin Vanko, Scott Vanko, Ryan Vanko and Lauren Erdogan.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Oxford Assembly of God, 12114 N US Highway 301, Oxford, FL. The family will gather at the church one hour prior to the service to meet with friends and neighbors. Burial will be private and at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Haydn’s name may be made to your local food pantry of choice.
