The parents of a man charged in a fatal golf cart mishap have sold their home in The Villages.
Timothy Jacob Foxworth, 37, had been at the wheel of his parents’ golf cart July 16 after a night of drinking at City Fire at Brownwood during which he met 51-year-old Shelly Osterhout of Fort Myers, who had been in The Villages visiting her parents. They left the bar together in the golf cart and she fell out when he made an abrupt U-turn. Foxworth is accused of dragging her body into a flower bed and fleeing the scene. He told police he had panicked.
Originally charged with hit-and-run, that charge was upgraded to DUI manslaughter after Osterhout died of brain injuries at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
On the night of the incident, Foxworth had consumed a beer at Outback steakhouse in The Villages and then had a shot of Fireball with his father at the Foxworths’ home on Norwood Street in the Village of Gilchrist. He and his father took the golf cart to City Fire where the younger Foxworth sipped vodka and grapefruit drinks, according to the arrest report. After meeting Osterhout, Foxworth told her he would run his father back to his Gilchrist home and then return to continue drinking with her. After he got back, she and Foxworth left in the golf cart.
Roger and Sheila Foxworth have since sold their house in the Village of Gilchrist.
They purchased the 7,325-square-foot Designer home in 2015 for $318,200. They sold the home this past October for $398,000, according to records on file with the Sumter County Property Appraiser.
Their son remains free on bond.
A status conference regarding his case is set for Jan. 3 in Sumter County Court.

Ground has been broken for the first-ever shooting range to be located within the “yellow lines” of The Villages.
Shooters World, which operates a store and gun range in Tampa, is set to build a golf-cart accessible facility here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.
Shooters World will bring a retail firearms store, shooting facility and training facility at the location at Powell Plaza at Powell Road and County Road 44A.
Plenty of Villagers are already familiar with Shooters World. The Villages Straight Shooters club takes monthly bus trips to the Shooters World facility in Tampa.
Earlier this year, Sumter County Administrator Bradley Arnold indicated the Shooters World facility could save the county money by forgoing the construction of a shooting range for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
